Advisory overview

Qualys Vulnerability R&D Lab has released new vulnerability checks in the Qualys Cloud Platform to protect organizations against 13 vulnerabilities that were fixed in 3 bulletins announced today by Adobe. Adobe has released 3 security bulletins to fix newly discovered flaws in their software. Qualys has released the following checks for these new vulnerabilities:

    Description

    Adobe Flash Player is a Cross-platform plugin plays animations, videos and sound files in .SWF format.

    This update fixes security bug(s) in Adobe Flash Player.

    Out-of-bounds read (CVE-2018-4933,CVE-2018-4934)
    Out-of-bounds write (CVE-2018-4935,CVE-2018-4937)
    Heap Overflow (CVE-2018-4936)

    Affected Versions:
    Adobe Flash Player 29.0.0.113 and earlier versions

    This QID checks for vulnerable version of Flash Player.

    Consequence

    An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to compromise Confidentiality, Integrity and/or Availability.

    Solution

    Description

    Adobe Digital Editions is an ebook reader software program from Adobe Systems built using Adobe Flash with support for acquiring, managing and reading eBooks, digital newspapers, and other digital publications. The software supports PDF, XHTML, and Flash-based content.

    This update fixes security bug(s) in Adobe Digital Editions.

    Affected Versions:
    Adobe Digital Editions versions prior to 4.5.8 for Windows and Macintosh

    This QID checks Windows registry for vulnerable versions of Adobe Digital Editions.

    Mac OS (Authenticated):
    This QID checks to see if a vulnerable version of Adobe Digital Editions application is installed on the system.

    Consequence

    An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to compromise Confidentiality, Integrity and/or Availability.

    Solution

    Description
    Adobe ColdFusion is an application for developing Web sites.

    Adobe has released security hotfixes for ColdFusion versions 11 and the 2016 release.

    CVE-2018-4941: Information Disclosure

    Affected Products:
    Adobe ColdFusion Builder 2016 Update 5 and earlier versions.
    Adobe ColdFusion 11 Update 13 and earlier versions.

    QID Detection Logic:
    Unauthenticated:
    This QID checks the vulnerable version of Adobe ColdFusion.

    Consequence
    Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to obtain sensitive information or execute arbitrary code.
    Solution
    Adobe has released updated versions of software to fix this vulnerability. Further more information can be obtained from APSB18-14

These new vulnerability checks are included in Qualys vulnerability signature 2.4.304-5. Each Qualys account is automatically updated with the latest vulnerability signatures as they become available. To view the vulnerability signature version in your account, from the Qualys Help menu, select the About tab.

Selective Scan Instructions Using Qualys

To perform a selective vulnerability scan, configure a scan profile to use the following options:

  1. Ensure access to TCP ports 135 and 139 are available.
  2. Enable Windows Authentication (specify Authentication Records).
  3. Enable the following Qualys IDs:
    • 370869
    • 370870
    • 370874
  4. If you would like the scan to return the Windows Hostname, also include QID 82044 and ensure access to UDP port 137 is available.
  5. If you would like to be notified if Qualys is unable to log on to a host (if Authentication fails), also include QID 105015.

In addition, prior to running a scan for these new vulnerabilities, you can estimate your exposure to these new threats by running the Risk Analysis Report, available from the Qualys Vulnerability Management Reports tab.
