Advisory overview
Qualys Vulnerability R&D Lab has released new vulnerability checks in the Enterprise TruRisk Platform to protect organizations against 50 vulnerabilities that were fixed in 3 bulletins announced today by Adobe. Customers can immediately audit their networks for these and other new vulnerabilities by accessing their Qualys subscription. Visit Qualys Security Blog to prioritize remediation.

Adobe Reader and Acrobat are applications for handling PDF files.
Adobe Reader and Acrobat are prone to multiple vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.
Affected Software:
Adobe Reader XI (11.0.11) and earlier 11.x versions for Windows
Adobe Reader X (10.1.14) and earlier 10.x versions for Windows

- Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities will allow an attacker to obtain sensitive information or crash the application.
- Solution

Users on Windows and Macintosh systems can utilize the Adobe product's update mechanism. The default configuration is set to run automatic update checks on a regular schedule. Update checks can be manually activated by choosing Help > Check for Updates.

Adobe Shockwave Player is a multimedia player available for multiple platforms.
This update resolves a memory corruption vulnerability that could lead to code execution.
Affected Versions:
Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1.8.158 and earlier versions on the Windows and Macintosh operating systems. - Consequence
- Successful exploitation of this vulnerability will allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code, and failed exploits may result in denial of service.
- Solution

The vendor has released an update to resolve this issue. Adobe recommends that users install Shockwave Player version 12.1.9.159. The updated version is available for download at the Shockwave Player Download site.

These new vulnerability checks are included in Qualys vulnerability signature 2.3.62-3. Each Qualys account is automatically updated with the latest vulnerability signatures as they become available. To view the vulnerability signature version in your account, from the Qualys Help menu, select the About tab.
Selective Scan Instructions Using Qualys
To perform a selective vulnerability scan, configure a scan profile to use the following options:
- Ensure access to TCP ports 135 and 139 are available.
- Enable Windows Authentication (specify Authentication Records).

Enable the following Qualys IDs:
- 123662
- 123717
- 123712
- If you would like the scan to return the Windows Hostname, also include QID 82044 and ensure access to UDP port 137 is available.
- If you would like to be notified if Qualys is unable to log on to a host (if Authentication fails), also include QID 105015.
In addition, prior to running a scan for these new vulnerabilities, you can estimate your exposure to these new threats by running the Risk Analysis Report, available from the Qualys Vulnerability Management Reports tab.
