Advisory overview

Qualys Vulnerability R&D Lab has released new vulnerability checks in the Qualys Cloud Platform to protect organizations against 23 vulnerabilities that were fixed in 2 bulletins announced today by Adobe. Customers can immediately audit their networks for these and other new vulnerabilities by accessing their Qualys subscription. Visit our blog to see how to prioritize remediation.

Adobe has released 2 security bulletins to fix newly discovered flaws in their software. Qualys has released the following checks for these new vulnerabilities:

    Description
    Adobe has released a security update for Flash Player that address following vulnerabilities:

    - Memory corruption vulnerabilities that could lead to code execution (CVE-2015-0347,CVE-2015-0350,CVE-2015-0352,CVE-2015-0353,CVE-2015-0354,CVE-2015-0355,CVE-2015-0360,CVE-2015-3038,CVE-2015-3041, CVE-2015-3042,CVE-2015-3043).
    - Type confusion vulnerabilities that could lead to code execution (CVE-2015-0356).
    - A a buffer overflow vulnerability that could lead to code execution (CVE-2015-0348).
    - Use-after-free vulnerabilities that could lead to code execution (CVE-2015-0349,CVE-2015-0351,CVE-2015-0358,CVE-2015-3039).
    - Double-free vulnerabilities that could lead to code execution (CVE-2015-0346,CVE-2015-0359).
    - Memory leak vulnerabilities that could be used to bypass ASLR (CVE-2015-0357,CVE-2015-3040).

    Affected Versions:
    Adobe Flash Player 17.0.0.134 and earlier versions
    Adobe Flash Player 13.0.0.277 and earlier 13.x versions

    Consequence
    A remote attacker could take control of a vulnerable system.
    Solution
    The vendor released a patch to resolve these vulnerabilities.
    Refer to Adobe Advisory APSB15-06 for updates.

    Workaround:
    Disable Flash player.

  • Adobe Security Hotfix for ColdFusion (APSB15-07)

    Description
    Adobe ColdFusion is an application for developing Web sites.

    Adobe has released security hotfixes for ColdFusion versions 11 and 10. These hotfixes address input validation issue that could be used in a reflected cross-site scripting attack.

    Affected Versions:
    ColdFusion 11 and 10

    Consequence
    Successful exploitation of this vulnerability will allow an attacker to execute arbitrary javascript in the client browser.
    Solution
    The vendor has released a hotfix to patch this vulnerability. Please refer to APSB15-07 for detailed information.

These new vulnerability checks are included in Qualys vulnerability signature 2.2.985-3. Each Qualys account is automatically updated with the latest vulnerability signatures as they become available. To view the vulnerability signature version in your account, from the Qualys Help menu, select the About tab.

Selective Scan Instructions Using Qualys

To perform a selective vulnerability scan, configure a scan profile to use the following options:

  1. Ensure access to TCP ports 135 and 139 are available.
  2. Enable Windows Authentication (specify Authentication Records).
  3. Enable the following Qualys IDs:
    • 123524
    • 123522
  4. If you would like the scan to return the Windows Hostname, also include QID 82044 and ensure access to UDP port 137 is available.
  5. If you would like to be notified if Qualys is unable to log on to a host (if Authentication fails), also include QID 105015.

In addition, prior to running a scan for these new vulnerabilities, you can estimate your exposure to these new threats by running the Risk Analysis Report, available from the Qualys Vulnerability Management Reports tab.
