Microsoft Exchange Server Elevation of Privilege Vulnerabilities (MS14-075)
- Severity
- Critical 4
- Qualys ID
- 74274
- Vendor Reference
- MS14-075
- CVE Reference
- CVE-2014-6319, CVE-2014-6325, CVE-2014-6326, CVE-2014-6336
- CVSS Scores
- Base 5 / Temporal 3.7
- Description
-
This security update resolves four privately reported vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange Server. The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow elevation of privilege if a user clicks a specially crafted URL that takes them to a targeted Outlook Web App site.
A token spoofing vulnerability exists in Exchange Server when Microsoft Outlook Web App (OWA) fails to properly validate a request token.
Elevation of privilege vulnerabilities exist when Microsoft Exchange Server does not properly validate input.
A spoofing vulnerability exists in Microsoft Exchange when Microsoft Outlook Web App (OWA) fails to properly validate redirection tokens.
Affected Software:
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3
Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3
Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack 1
Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 6This security update is rated Important for all supported editions of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, and Microsoft Exchange Server 2013.
Note:Due to an issue with a Microsoft security update for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3, Microsoft recommends that customers uninstall update 2986475 if they have already installed it. A patch will be released later to mitigate this vulnerability - Consequence
-
An attacker who successfully exploited these vulnerabilities can run script in the context of the current user. An attacker can, for example, read content that the attacker is not authorized to read, use the victim's identity to take actions on the Outlook Web App site on behalf of the victim, such as change permissions and delete content, and inject malicious content in the browser of the victim. Any system that is used to access an affected version of Outlook Web App would potentially be at risk to attack.

- Remote code execution vulnerabilities exist when Internet Explorer improperly accesses objects in memory.
- XSS filter bypass vulnerabilities exist in the way that Internet Explorer disables an HTML attribute in otherwise appropriately filtered HTTP response data.
- A security feature bypass vulnerability exists when Internet Explorer does not use the Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) security feature, allowing an attacker to more reliably predict the memory offsets of specific instructions in a given call stack.
- A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that the VBScript engine, when rendered in Internet Explorer, handles objects in memory.
This security update is rated Critical for Internet Explorer 6 (IE 6), Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7), Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8), Internet Explorer 9 (IE 9), Internet Explorer 10 (IE 10), and Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) on affected Windows clients, and Moderate for Internet Explorer 6 (IE 6), Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7), Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8), Internet Explorer 9 (IE 9), Internet Explorer 10 (IE 10), and Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) on affected Windows servers.
