Qualys Researchers to Reveal Vulnerabilities in TSA Airport Security and Home Devices at Black Hat USA 2014

Qualys CEO to Discuss Insider Threats at Black Hat Executive Summit

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. –– July 31, 2014 – Qualys, Inc. Qualys, Inc. (NASDAQ: QLYS), a pioneer and leading provider of cloud security and compliance solutions, today announced it will present two key pieces of security research at Black Hat USA 2014, August 4 – 8 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Qualys’ research will focus on vulnerabilities in TSA airport security devices and on hacking physical devices commonly found in the household. Additionally, Qualys CEO Philippe Courtot will discuss how CSOs can better control and contain insider threats at the Black Hat Executive Summit.

WHAT: Is There an Insider Threat…or is Everything Insider Today?
WHEN: Tuesday, August 5, 9:30 – 10:00am PT

Courtot will discuss today’s complex security environments and the amplified risk of insider threats as underscored by the Snowden effect. With corporate data now fully digitized and widely distributed, Courtot will also offer insights for CSOs looking for more effective ways to better control and contain insider threats.

WHAT: “Pulling Back the Curtain on Airport Security: Can a Weapon get Past TSA?”

Rios will go into detail on how a variety of TSA airport security devices and networks operate and will reveal their weaknesses. He will present on what the industry has learned so far about modern airport security procedures and go into depth on the devices used to detect threats and some of the network security risks and bugs discovered.

Cesare will present his study on how he was able to break into a number of household and common devices such as a popular model car and home alarm systems. He will also discuss ways of mitigating these attacks and avoiding the bad and buying the good.

Qualys will also showcase its continuous monitoring technology and reveal the blueprint for creating a continuous security practice within today’s distributed, complex and highly dynamic security perimeters.

Kandek will lay out a blueprint for creating a continuous security practice spanning the entire lifecycle, from discovering assets to prioritizing issues and mitigating exploits. The session will also demonstrate the use of Qualys Continuous Monitoring cloud-based solution, including new integrations with leading SIEM providers and common event format (CEF) support, empowering organizations to proactively address critical vulnerabilities.
