Qualys Introduces Ground Breaking Free Malware Detection Service To Protect Web Sites from Malicious Activities and Prevent the Spread of Malware to Visitors

New Service Based on Advanced Behavioral Analysis is “Near Zero False Positive Rate” and Scales to Process Millions of URLs Daily

San Francisco, Calif. - March 1, 2010 - Qualys®, Inc., the leading provider of on demand IT security risk and compliance management solutions, today at RSA Conference USA 2010 (Booth# 1432) introduced a new free service, QualysGuard® Malware Detection, that proactively scans web sites of any size, anywhere in the world, for malware infections and threats. QualysGuard Malware Detection provides businesses with automated alerts and in-depth reporting for effective remediation of identified malware.

“Each day thousands of web sites are infected with malware and propagate the infection to visitors of their sites. Visitors rarely know that they are infected or that their personal information has been compromised,” said Avivah Litan, VP and distinguished analyst at Gartner, Inc. “Organizations and merchants that employ proactive measures for continuous malware threat monitoring will help limit the spread of malware infections and protect consumers on the Internet.”

QualysGuard Malware Detection protects web sites and their visitors by:

  • Conducting daily recurring scans that provide immediate insight into malware issues
  • Delivering automated alerts when malware is found
  • Identifying vulnerable code snippets for quick and easy removal of malware

QualysGuard Malware Detection minimizes false positives to a near zero rate by utilizing both static analysis and behavioral analysis to accurately identify malware while scanning. The static analysis identifies source code typically used in malicious attacks, including encoded JavaScript, web bugs, and character encoding inside of inline frames. Behavioral analysis identifies malicious behavior that occurs upon visiting the site with an unpatched browser and operating system. It monitors the unpatched machine for suspicious behavior, such as programs being installed and started or files being written to disk.

“We created QualysGuard Malware Detection as a way to fight against cybercrime and to make the Web a safer place for everyone,” said Philippe Courtot, chairman and CEO for Qualys. “This is a comprehensive free solution that arms businesses of all sizes to monitor malware threats on their web sites and take steps to remediate vulnerabilities.”

QualysGuard Malware Detection scales to scan millions of web pages on a daily basis by using virtual machines with unpatched browsers and operating systems to identify suspicious behavior on web pages.

Qualys today also announced the Qualys Go SECURE service with the Qualys SECURE seal Qualys SECURE seal to allow businesses of all sizes to demonstrate to online customers that they are taking proactive steps in identifying and remediating malware and other security threats from their web sites.
