COLT Expands Range Of Security Services

COLT collaborates with Qualys to offer 24x7 vulnerability analysis

— June 26, 2001 — COLT Telecom Group plc (COLT) is set to offer Europe’s e-businesses an online service that provides comprehensive, on-demand 24x7 security audits and vulnerability assessments. Launching today in Zurich, Switzerland, following a successful implementation in France, the easy-to-use facility identifies, analyses, and reports on customer IP network devices and security threats, all over the Internet, and will be rolled out through COLT’s other European countries during 2001.

Called COLT InterSecure Scan, the new service is offered as a result of a collaboration with a leading provider of enterprise network vulnerability assessment and monitoring solutions, Qualys.

“Ensuring robust network security should be high on the list of priorities for organisations aspiring to incorporate the Internet into the heart of their business model,” says Rob Mainor, COLT Internet’s Managing Director. “The collaboration with Qualys demonstrates COLT’s commitment to ensuring that each of our customers can benefit from the continuous audit of their networks to detect security vulnerabilities and assess risks. As such, it perfectly illustrates the new standards for secure and resilient Internet offerings that COLT continues to set.”

COLT InterSecure Scan is based on a unique, online global vulnerability scanning platform developed by Qualys that uses over 900 specific node tests to analyse networks from the outside-in, as a potential intruder would do, uncovering security gaps that would be difficult to detect from a traditional inside-out perspective. The service audits graphically maps and clearly describes security risks and suggested possible solutions.

“COLT is perfectly placed to partner Qualys in Europe,” says Philippe Courtot, chairman and CEO of Qualys. “Their high-performance, pan-European network hosts on of Europe’s most comprehensive offering of managed e-services - ideal for e-businesses. As COLT understands, effective protection against network intrusion demands on-going surveillance and preservation of the network infrastructure. The new-generation Qualys platform gives COLT’s customers the ability to check their networks against a continuously updated database of known threats as frequently as they need”.
