Vulnerability Details
Microsoft has released 6 security patches to fix 17 newly discovered flaws in Microsoft Windows.

Qualys has released the following checks for these new vulnerabilities:
Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Visio Could Allow Remote Code Execution
SEVERITY: Critical Critical-4 4
QUALYS ID: 110060
VENDOR REFERENCE: MS07-030, 927051
CVE REFERENCE: CVE-2007-0934, CVE-2007-0936
CVSS SCORES: Base 5.6/ Temporal 4.1
THREAT: A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way Microsoft Visio handles a specially crafted version number in a Visio (.VSD, VSS, or .VST) file.

A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Microsoft Visio as a result of the way it incorrectly handles the parsing of packed objects within the Visio file format.
IMPACT: A malicious attacker can trick the user into opening a specially crafted file and can take complete control of the system.
SOLUTION: Microsoft has released some patches and workarounds for this vulnerability. Check Microsoft security bulletin MS07-030 for details.

Microsoft has rated this issue as Important.

Windows Schannel Security Package Could Allow Remote Code Execution
SEVERITY: Critical Critical-4 4
QUALYS ID: 115571
VENDOR REFERENCE: MS07-031, 935840
CVE REFERENCE: CVE-2007-2218
CVSS SCORES: Base 5.6/ Temporal 4.1
THREAT: The Secure Channel (Schannel) security package is a Security Support Provider (SSP) that implements the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) Internet standard authentication protocols.

It is vulnerable to a remote code execution issue due to insufficient checks for specially crafted server-sent digital signatures during the SSL handshake.
IMPACT: An attacker who successfully exploits this vulnerability could run arbitrary code on the affected system, which could lead to complete control of the affected system.
SOLUTION: Refer to Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-031 for further details on this vulnerability and patch instructions.

Microsoft has rated this issue as Critical.

Windows Vista Could Allow Information Disclosure
SEVERITY: Serious Serious-3 3
QUALYS ID: 90396
VENDOR REFERENCE: MS07-032, 931213
CVE REFERENCE: CVE-2007- 2229
CVSS SCORES: Base 2.8/ Temporal 2.2
THREAT: This is a vulnerability in Windows Vista which allows non-privileged users to access local user information.
IMPACT: A non-privileged user can exploit this vulnerability by gaining access to the local administrative passwords and other information stored in the registry and local file system.
SOLUTION: Refer to Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-032 for further details on this vulnerability and patch instructions.

Microsoft has rated this issue as Moderate.

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer
SEVERITY: Critical Critical-4 4
QUALYS ID: 100047
VENDOR REFERENCE: MS07-033, 933566
CVE REFERENCE: CVE-2007-0218, CVE-2007-1750, CVE-2007-3027, CVE-2007-1751, CVE-2007-1752, CVE-2007-2222
CVSS SCORES: Base 8/ Temporal 5.9
THREAT: Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Internet Explorer. The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution.
IMPACT: If a user is logged on with administrative user rights, an attacker who successfully exploits the most severe of these vulnerabilities could take complete control of an affected system.
SOLUTION: Refer to Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-033 for further details on this vulnerability and patch instructions.

Microsoft has rated the most severe of these issues as Critical.

Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express and Windows Mail
SEVERITY: Critical Critical-4 4
QUALYS ID: 90398
VENDOR REFERENCE: MS07-034, 929123
CVE REFERENCE: CVE-2006-2111, CVE-2007-1658, CVE-2007-2225, CVE-2007-2227
CVSS SCORES: Base 4.7/ Temporal 3.9
THREAT: This security update addresses vulnerabilities in Outlook Express and Windows Mail.
IMPACT: An attacker who successfully exploits the most severe of these vulnerabilities could take complete control of an affected system.
SOLUTION: Refer to Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-034 for further details on this vulnerability and patch instructions.

Microsoft has rated the most severe of these issues as Critical.

Win 32 API Could Allow Remote Code Execution
SEVERITY: Critical Critical-4 4
QUALYS ID: 90397
VENDOR REFERENCE: MS07-035, 935839
CVE REFERENCE: CVE-2007-2219
CVSS SCORES: Base 6.8/ Temporal 5.3
THREAT: A remote code execution vulnerability exists because of the way the win32 API validates parameters.
IMPACT: An attacker can exploit this vulnerability using a specially crafted Web page. When the user views the page, it can allow remote code execution. The attacker can take complete control of the affected system.
SOLUTION: Refer to Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-035 for further details on this vulnerability and patch instructions.

Microsoft has rated this issue as Critical.

This new vulnerability check is included in Qualys vulnerability signatures v1.17.73-4. SELECTIVE SCAN INSTRUCTIONS USING QUALYSGUARD:

To perform a selective vulnerability scan, configure a scan profile to use the following options:

  1. Ensure access to TCP ports 135 and 139 are available.
  2. Enable Windows Authentication (specify Authentication Records).
  3. Enable the following Qualys IDs:
    • 110060
    • 115571
    • 90396
    • 100047
    • 90398
    • 90397
  4. If you would like the scan to return the Windows Hostname, also include QID 82044 and ensure access to UDP port 137 is available.
  5. If you would like to be notified if QualysGuard is unable to logon to a host (if Authentication fails), also include QID 105015.

In addition, prior to running a scan for these new vulnerabilities, you can estimate your exposure to these new threats by running the Risk Matrix Report, available from the QualysGuard HOME page.
